From a lack of on-screen characters to a lack of creators behind the scenes, the legacies of racism have created a void in mainstream stories that represent Black kids' every day worlds.

There's a targeted effort to dismantle efforts like DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) in schools and and divest in Black books in public spaces. Black children are uniquely affected; coming of age in a climate where their history, culture and identity are under siege.

Frankly, just watch the news or listen attentively to see what passes as civil discourse these days to know that there's still so much work to do in pursuing the equitable world that our kids so desperately deserve.

Some of the largest media giants in the world put profits before kids' safety.  Between ratings and algorithms, the industry's self-regulation often falls short, letting harmful content sneak through the cracks.
